Privacy notice
Last updated: 4 August 2026 · In effect from: 4 August 2026
This notice explains how TapProbe (“we”, “the desk”) handles personal information collected through tapprobe.com. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. Who is responsible
TapProbe is an independent editorial desk based in Australia and is the entity responsible for the personal information described here. For any question about this notice, or to make a request about your information, write to probe@tapprobe.com. We answer privacy requests within a reasonable period and normally within 30 days.
2. What we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Alert sign-up: your e-mail address, and your name if you choose to enter one.
- Correspondence: anything you include when you write to the desk by e-mail.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Server logs: IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, referring page, browser user-agent string and language settings.
- Cookies and similar storage: small files and browser storage entries used to keep the site working and to remember your cookie choice. The full list is in the cookie notice.
- Push identifiers: if you allow browser notifications, a subscription identifier issued by your browser's push service, together with basic technical data such as browser type and operating system.
- Advertising identifiers: identifiers set by advertising partners where you have accepted optional cookies.
We do not ask for a telephone number or a postal address, and the only form on the site is the alert sign-up described above.
3. Why we handle it, and on what basis
| Purpose | Information used | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Serving the site and keeping it secure | Server logs, necessary cookies | Our legitimate business need to operate a functioning, secure website |
| Sending log updates by e-mail and browser notification | E-mail address, name, push identifier | Your consent, given when you submit the form and when your browser asks about notifications |
| Audience measurement | Analytics cookies, aggregated usage data | Your consent through the cookie banner |
| Advertising placements | Advertising cookies and identifiers | Your consent through the cookie banner |
| Answering correspondence | E-mail address and message content | Your request to us |
4. How long we keep it
- Server logs: up to 12 months, then deleted or aggregated.
- Alert subscriptions: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete the record; inactive addresses are reviewed every 24 months.
- Push identifiers: until you revoke notification permission in the browser, or the subscription expires.
- Correspondence: up to 24 months after the exchange ends.
- Cookies: for the lifetimes listed in the cookie notice.
5. Who else handles it
We keep the list of processors short, and personal information is never passed to anyone else for their own purposes.
- Hosting provider: stores the site files and generates server logs on our instruction.
- OneSignal: processes browser push subscriptions and e-mail alerts on our behalf, including the delivery of messages and the unsubscribe mechanism.
- Advertising partners: where optional advertising cookies are accepted, partners may receive identifiers and page context to select a placement.
- Font delivery: the site loads a web font from a content delivery network, which receives the request data needed to serve the file.
Some of these providers operate servers outside Australia, which means your information may be handled overseas. We use providers that commit contractually to protecting the information they process for us.
6. Links to Google Play
Entries in the catalogue link to game listings on Google Play. Once you follow such a link, Google's own terms and privacy documentation apply to the visit. We have no control over, and take no responsibility for, information handled on that platform.
7. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles you may:
- ask for access to the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete;
- cancel your consent to alerts at any time, by using the unsubscribe link, by switching notifications off in your browser, or by writing to the desk;
- ask us to delete your subscription record;
- ask how we handled a complaint about your information.
Send any of these requests to probe@tapprobe.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the national privacy regulator, through oaic.gov.au.
8. Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to subscription data is limited to the people who run the desk, and processors are chosen on the basis of their published security practices. No online service can promise absolute safety, but we take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access.
9. Children
Some of the games we test are made for children, but this site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted an address, write to us and we will remove it.
10. Changes to this notice
If this notice changes, the revised version is published on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes to how alerts work will be announced in the alert channel itself.
